Show off a Sleek Stomach

Even with consistent diet and exercise, many patients find it nearly impossible to eliminate fat deposits and firm excess skin around their midsections. This stubborn area can be the cause of much frustration and can hold patients back from having their perfect body. At the Center for Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Jeffrey DeMercurio are dedicated to helping patients achieve their cosmetic goals, and offer abdominoplasty as a solution to lingering belly fat. Also known as a tummy tuck, this procedure can give patients a sleeker, more defined stomach. If you are dissatisfied with extra skin and fat around your abdomen and are interested in learning more about the tummy tuck procedure, please contact our practice to schedule a consultation.

About Tummy Tuck Surgery

Tummy tuck surgery is an extensive procedure that is designed to significantly improve the appearance of the stomach. Our skilled surgeons Dr. DeMercurio have successfully performed hundreds of abdominoplasty procedures. During surgery, which is performed while the patient is under general anesthesia, an incision is made across the abdomen, from hip to hip. Dr. DeMercurio then separates the skin from the abdominal muscles, creating a flap. After the muscles are tightened and the waistline is narrowed, the surgeon removes excess skin and replaces the flap. Depending on the extent of the procedure, a tummy tuck can take anywhere from two to five hours. Because abdominoplasty targets both the muscles and skin tissue, bruising and swelling are typical in the days following surgery.

Tummy Tuck Candidates

The tummy tuck procedure can drastically improve the contours of the stomach and waistline, but is not intended to serve as a means of achieving significant weight loss. Instead, tummy tuck surgery is meant to firm areas of the abdomen that do not respond to other methods. Therefore, the ideal candidate for abdominoplasty is at least 18 years of age and is relatively close to a healthy body weight. Women who have gone through pregnancy or individuals whose skin has lost elasticity due to weight changes or aging are also typical candidates for tummy tuck surgery. The procedure is not recommended for individuals who plan to become pregnant or experience weight fluctuations, as these changes can adversely affect the results of the surgery. During a consultation with Dr.DeMercurio, patients can learn more about the procedure and determine whether it is their best option for achieving their aesthetic goals.

The Benefits of a Tummy Tuck

For both men and women, the abdominal area can be one of the hardest parts of the body to keep trim and toned. Abdominoplasty provides a flat, slim stomach for patients who have been unable to achieve their desired physical results through other methods. This popular cosmetic procedure is safe, and has long-lasting results when paired with healthy lifestyle habits. In addition to eliminating fat, abdominoplasty can reduce the appearance of stretch marks, and remove excess skin from patients who have recently given birth or had bariatric surgery. Finally, a tummy tuck provides patients with a slender, attractive physique. The simple act of being able to fit into smaller-sized pants can have a tremendous impact on a patient’s self-confidence. This, and other positive physical changes associated with abdominoplasty, can go a long way toward helping a patient feel comfortable about their bodies.
